The 2024 Australian Hotels Association Awards were held at The Star Brisbane on Monday, 25th November. The Comiskey Group proudly took home two national awards for Sandstone Point Holiday Resort: “Best Tourism Initiative” and “Best Mid-Range Accommodation.”
On the night, General Manager Julie Daniel and her 2IC, Operations Manager Rochelle Dent, joined Directors Rob and David Comiskey to collect the awards.
Director David Comiskey expressed his pride in the resort team’s achievements, stating:
“We have, and continue to, invest in Sandstone Point Holiday Resort. The world-class facilities and variety of accommodation options make it an appealing destination for all ages. However, while the facilities attract visitors, our high return visitation rate is a testament to our incredible team, led by Julie and Rochelle. We are extremely proud of our staff across the resort. The amazing reviews we receive and the positive experiences shared are a result of our friendly, helpful, energetic, and professional team, who are well-deserving of this recognition. I’d like to thank our team for all their efforts and the AHA for putting on another fantastic night”
The Comiskey Group took home four state titles at the 2024 Queensland Hotels Association Awards, which qualified them for four national award nominations:
- Best Family Dining: The Doonan
- Best Retail Liquor Outlet: Harry Brown Liquor, Eatons Hill
- Best Mid-Range Accommodation: Sandstone Point Holiday Resort
- Best Tourism Initiative: Sandstone Point Holiday Resort
Director Rob Comiskey is honoured to be recognised at the industry’s night of nights.
“To come away with one national title, let alone two, is a big feat! There were some very strong, deserving contenders, so taking out the win was a pleasant surprise. Our team is exceptional, and we are honoured to be recognised among Australia’s best. Congratulations to all the winners and finalists on the night!”
The biggest night of celebration for Australia’s hospitality industry featured prominent figures like Merivale CEO Justin Hemmes. The Australian Hotels Association inducted Justin Hemmes into the prestigious Diageo Johnnie Walker Hall of Fame, with AHA NSW President Scott Leach delivering a heartfelt tribute.
Comiskey Group Directors Paul and Rob Comiskey also had the opportunity to catch up with New South Wales hospitality icon, Justin Hemmes, at the awards night.
“We greatly admire everything Merivale accomplishes across the border. It was great to see Justin and his family recognised for their outstanding contributions to the hospitality industry, with an inspiring tribute. Congratulations to Justin on this much-deserved recognition. You and your team do our industry proud,” says Rob Comiskey.
The Merivale portfolio consists of over 90 venues across New South Wales, including the highly-acclaimed Mr. Wong, Totti’s, Coogee Pavilion and Mimi’s, to name a few. The Comiskey family have been long-time fans of the Merivale venues and don’t usually make their way to Sydney without visiting one.
