Today, the Comiskey Group proudly announces the approval of their proposed Eco Tourist Park in Coochin Creek – Coochin Creek Holiday Resort, a landmark ecotourism development set to deliver a major boost to Sunshine Coast tourism, local jobs and long-term economic growth.
Approved by the Crisafulli Government following a comprehensive five-year planning and assessment process, the 150-site tourist park near Caloundra marks an important milestone for both the region and the Comiskey Group. The decision carefully balances economic development with strong environmental safeguards, aligning with Queensland’s Destination 2045 tourism strategy and a renewed focus on low-impact, high-quality ecotourism.

Purchased by the Comiskey Group in 2021, the Coochin Creek site has been thoughtfully planned from day one to respect its natural setting while delivering meaningful benefits to the wider community.
Comiskey Group Director David Comiskey says reaching this point is incredibly rewarding.
“We’d like to thank the Queensland Government for their support of this project. We purchased the land back in 2021, so it’s incredibly rewarding to reach this point after a five-year planning and approvals process — and we can’t wait to get started,” Mr Comiskey said.
“While we’ve drawn on our experience building, owning and operating the popular Sandstone Point Holiday Resort, Coochin Creek Holiday Resort will be a unique destination in its own right, designed specifically for this location. It will create local jobs, attract new visitors and deliver a family-friendly ecotourism experience that truly showcases the Sunshine Coast.”

Once operational, the development is expected to deliver significant economic and tourism benefits, including 85,600 visitor nights per year, attracting around 20,000 additional visitors annually and generating an estimated $34 million in visitor expenditure across the Sunshine Coast.
The approved development includes 75 camping and caravan sites alongside 75 cabins in one-, two- and three-bedroom configurations. Designed with families at its heart, the park will feature world-class facilities for all ages, including a waterplay park, swim-up bar, jumping pillow, pickleball courts, putt putt golf and more.

Importantly, the project also delivers strong environmental outcomes. The site — previously used as a strawberry farm — will be extensively revegetated, bringing trees, shrubs and native plants back to a largely cleared landscape.
With an estimated development cost of $35 million, the project will be delivered by the Comiskey Group’s in-house construction team, creating local jobs both during construction and ongoing operations.
As the owners, builders and long-term operators of Australia’s most popular BIG4 Holiday Park, Sandstone Point Holiday Resort on the Bribie Island end of the Pumicestone Passage, the Comiskey Group brings deep experience in the holiday park industry. Continuing to make headlines on the Sunshine Coast — including the acquisition of Eumundi Brewery in 2025 and the completion of the renovation at the iconic Imperial Hotel in Eumundi — the Group is proud to further contribute to the region’s future with a development that supports tourism growth, strengthens the local economy and respects natural surrounds.
Construction planning is now underway, with further updates to be shared as the project progresses.
