The Comiskey Group’s major hotel and shopping village development on 3.75 hectares in Dakabin is turning heads, with steel frames complete and more businesses set to open any day now.
Today, due to high demand, the Comiskey Group share their exclusive design concepts for Dakabin Hotel’s interior, and give insight into the progress of the overall development thus far.
Sitting elevated on the corner of Alma and Old Gympie Road, the $35m Dakabin Hotel is taking shape within full-view of the local community. The much-anticipated local pub is expected to open around March/April 2025, with the steel structure complete and the roof already underway. Destined to become a landmark, the hotel will be well-recognised by the striking triangular architectural design of its exterior.
Director David Comiskey is excited to see the hotel take shape and looks forward to inviting locals in.
“The hotel was designed to integrate seamlessly with its community, not merely exist within it. It needed to be welcoming from the street! The expansive triangular windows will not only flood the interior with natural light but also showcase the vibrancy and enjoyment inside, enticing passersby to join in the fun. Its prominent position elevated on a corner block allows incredible visibility of the site, we believe the hotel will naturally become a landmark of its community and we hope its something locals will be proud of” says David.
Today, the Comiskey Group share for the very first time, a sneak peek of the hotels internal design concept. In collaboration with KP Architects and design studio CTRL Space, the Comiskey Group have created the vision of the interior for Dakabin Hotel. Offering a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining, a sports bar with TAB, a gaming room and large kids room.
The hotel will foster a relaxed environment with a natural colour palette, comfortable furnishings and many indoor-outdoor spaces featuring intricate brickwork and other natural textures.
Dakabin Hotel’s restaurant will be an exceptional space to catch up with loved ones, all year round! In an exclusive first, the Comiskey Group are excited to share that the hotel will feature a statement fireplace, surrounded by sunken lounges for the ultimate cosy catch up.
Dakabin Hotel’s menu will feature modern Australian, with plenty of pub favourites, as well as an Asian influence throughout.
Comiskey Hotels are well-known for their designer landscaping; The Doonan on the Sunshine Coast, in particular, has become a destination for green thumbs to explore in awe. Dakabin locals can too expect an abundance of greenery throughout their new hotel, including dining spaces designed around indoor trees.
“We know the value of beautiful and thoughtful landscaping, it can turn a nice space into an incredible one! Dakabin Hotel will have real and artificial plants throughout, adding warmth to every space” says Director, David Comiskey.
The hotel’s sports bar will be complete with TAB and Fox Sports, so you can catch the live action closer to home!
“We want Dakabin Hotel to be the go-to for a knock-off drink! The sports bar will be a focal point of our offering, featuring a circular LED screen playing Fox Sports. We are currently getting custom booths made and have ordered pool tables to complete the area. We can only imagine the energy of game-day in the new Sports Bar, it’s going to be a great place to be with your mates” says David Comiskey.
The Comiskey Group’s stylists have begun hand-selecting furniture, artwork and décor to bring the hotel to life.
“It’s a team effort! We collaborated with KP Architects and external design studio, CTRL Space, and then our construction team picked up their tools to get the project off the ground. We’ve even consulted within the business, getting valuable feedback from our team across various departments. Once the fit-out is complete, our stylists will pull everything together adding all the finishing touches. It’s a lengthy process but to watch our ideas be brought to life is the best part” says David.
In preparation for opening, the Comiskey Group have begun the hiring process, with a variety of hospitality roles available at Dakabin Hotel. As always, locals to each venue take preference in their search, and the group will be conducting interviews over the next few months.
Group Operations Manager, Brad Harding will head the hiring of staff at Dakabin Hotel and has already employed a number of chefs specialising in Asian cuisine.
“We encourage locals with hospitality experience to get in touch, there are many senior positions available. Those wanting industry experience, are also welcome to apply. We have a range of junior roles and positions that we can grow the right team member into. The most important thing for us is having a team that are professional, friendly and helpful; we are looking for staff that are reliable and can work together“

The Comiskey Group have seen massive growth over the last couple of years. Along with Dakabin Hotel, the group have commenced construction on Strathpine Hotel, and are in the midst of renovating The Imperial Hotel in Eumundi. Soon the group will also settle on a new development, Aura Hotel, the Sunshine Coast’s largest pub and entertainment venue. With various projects in the works, as well as a few development applications awaiting approval, the family-owned company aren’t slowing down anytime soon.

Dakabin Village, the $15m shopping precinct on-site, will become a vibrant hub of activity, with well-known tenants secured including; Subway, Cafe 63, Bottlemart, PizzaWorkz and Little Red Dumpling.

The shopping village is located opposite the sites three drive-thrus; Guzman Y Gomez, Zarraffas Coffee and KFC, as well as the Shell service station and Nightowl, which are already open.
The businesses within the shopping village will be the next complete, and begin opening from mid-late October 2024, followed by Dakabin Hotel in early 2025.
“Dakabin is a massive growth area, not to mention its close proximity to the thriving North Lakes community, it really is a great opportunity for leasing. Our Dakabin development is in a high profile location on the main road, offering great visibility right opposite Woolworths.
