You asked, we listened! Mural artist paints shipping containers at Sandstone Point Hotel

In a meeting with the local Sandstone Point Community, the Comiskey Group were informed that many local residents believed the shipping containers located on Sandstone Point Hotel’s property along Bribie Island Road were an eye-sore.

The containers sole purpose on the property is to act as a sound barrier for the hotel’s concerts throughout the year, perfectly positioned by sound engineers to lessen the noise impact on residents.

After hearing the feedback, Comiskey Group Directors jumped into action the following week, contracting Brisbane-based artist Travis Vinson, known as DRAPL, to design and paint a mural across the 10 shipping containers.

Known for his impeccable work on rural silos and festival backdrops for various clients, DRAPL has worked with the Comiskey Group a handful of times, commissioned to paint directional signage in venues and murals on walls. View DRAPL’s mural piece at Samford Hotel

Inspired by Vinson’s remarkable portfolio, which has left its mark across Australia, Director David Comiskey saw an opportunity to infuse the hotel’s surroundings with a piece on the containers that capture the essence of Bribie Island’s natural allure.

David expressed his enthusiasm, stating “We were captivated by DRAPL’s exceptional talent and vision. His work deeply resonates with communities, and we wanted to bring that compelling spirit to Sandstone Point. The mural serves as a spectacular welcome to all visitors, showcasing the beauty and vibrancy of Bribie Island”

The mural depicts the landscape of the area; Bribie Island’s white sand beaches, Bongaree Jetty and the views of the Glass House Mountains across Pumicestone Passage. The piece also encapsulates the incredible lifestyle of its residents, a boat can be seen in the passage, along with a depiction of the pelicans and seagulls that call the community home.

Sandstone Point Hotel and the Comiskey Group invite everyone to witness the transformation as the mural takes shape, inviting locals and tourists to experience the very soul of Bribie Island through the eyes of this exceptionally talented artist.
